I'm looking for some software, preferably PHP/MySQL (Linux) based to run a
    subscription newsletter site.

It looks like aMember takes care of most of the features I want like paypal
integration and different subscription levels (recurring, trial periods?), but
    I have some questions.

aMember seems to be more focused on membership services and not mailing
    list/newsletter services.
Can I run multiple newsletters from my paid (and unpaid) members via aMember?
or better yet, is there any integration with newsletter software like GNU Mailman, mailgust or
mailworkspro? I haven't used any of these programs yet but at first glance they
appear to have more features for the maillist/newsletter side of things.

Features I need on my site are:

    * web archiving of mailing lists/newsletters and possibly posting FROM the website too in addition to email posting.

    * Spam handling or at least restricting posting from members of list.

    * bounce handling features?

If the newsletter software I mentioned above will not work, can the aMember folks
recommend some other software that WILL work alongside aMember to do
    what I want to do?

    Hi David,
    thank you for contacting us.

Yes, aMember Pro is oriented to sell membership, but it is really flexible
and uses plugins architecture to manage slave members databases (for
example in bulletin board or in mailing list software).

    About your task.
Mailman seems to be fine software, but it doesn't support storing members
    in MySQL database.
Mailworkspro is not mailing list software, it is software to send
    newsletters (different things, I though).

Mailgust seems to be ok for your task. Custom integration
required. You will be able to setup multiple subscription levels,
every one will be related with one mailing list in mailgust.
