Is there a way to "freeze" or "activate" accounts?

    Is there a way to make it so that members must be "activated" in order to join? or is it all just automatic?

    Also, say someone becomes a member, is there a way to "Freeze" their account? So they cannot access the site until unfrozen?

    Yes, there is "Locked" field in member profile.
