I called many processing companies - my site is stock market related so some like CDG do not accept this service type. Anyway now that PayPal accepts credit cards also is there some reason not to use them? I have my ACH bank setup with them already so easy to receive payment and I know they do automatic renewal. Maybe their rates are higher? Most processors I have called charge about 2.2% plus $0.25 per and an extra 1.25 for foreign. Any thoughts appreciated
One reason would be that it does not provide a seamless experience for your user. During the checkout process they have to be redirected to PayPal's site to enter their credit card info or PayPal credentials. Using a standard merchant account (with Authorize.net plugin or whatever) allows you to keep the users on your site and avoid the redirect which may (no real facts to back this up) increase abandonment. That being said, I take PayPal & Authoize.net on my sites..
Thanks - I do not see a problem with someone leaving the site to pay as most do anyway. I thought authorize.net was a gateway but not a merchant account.
I guess it is a personal preference, I actually don't like the notion of being redirected when I'm shopping at a site. No major sites do this. PayPal allows larger sites to use their service without being redirected, but has not opened it up to smaller sites sadly. Yes you are correct, was referring to use the Authorize.net plugin.
Hello, I haven't tested it yet but well soon in using aMember 3.1.4 which supports Authorize.Net CIM payment plugin. This should give you the best of all worlds in that you can have your payment form on your web site and store the credit card information remotely on Authorize.Net servers. It costs an extra $20/month thru Authorize.net but I would be willing to pay for it if it works correctly. I looked at the plugin code and compared it to specifications and it appeared to be done correctly. I have seen others having problems using it so I don't know yet if it is an aMember plugin issue or Authorize.Net issue yet. If I found out anything I will be sure to post it here. Jimmy
I use PayPal and get about 75% abandonment when the user hits the PayPal site. Really sucks. Trying to find the best solution now (but I also need it to support recurring). I see that PayPal Websites Pro now supports recurring, so I'm looking into that as well.
