Softsale - Add license to user

Is there a way you can give a user a license without adding an invoice.
Some users you want to give comp access to a product, but creating "USER ACCESS" won't automatically create a license for that user. Instead you have to ADD INVOICE and assign it as a CC purchase. It's the only way to do it, but it's problematic because it then sends an email saying they were charged the amount and it also messes up reporting (because aMember assumes they were charged fully).

Is there ANYway to do this?

The Softsale plug-in seems very buggy and incomplete (this is just one example above).
Do you plan to ever update this plug-in, or did you guys stop improving/supporting it?

Purchased this module recently and ran into the same hurdle. This is extremely annoying, and this product feels incomplete. I'm having to weigh my options now.
