    Hi,
PayPal in the UK have apparently had a bit of a meltdown today. They seem to have been playing it down a bit on twitter etc but the customer service lady on the phone said that basically the whole of PayPal UK had gone into panic mode with everybody working to solve the problem.

It seems that the payments are being made but that the notification codes aren't being sent. Customer services gave us mixed messages here. First we were given the impression that the codes were being created but not sent and that we would receive them eventually. Then we were told that actually it's possible that some of the notifications won't have been created and we won't ever receive them. She was very apologetic but this is a complete nightmare.

We get A LOT of signups each day and we are struggling to keep up with trying to email everybody to apologise and set people up manually.

Official PayPal website says that the glitch has been fixed since 10am but it certainly doesn't look like it from our end. We've had a couple of payments come through normally now which is giving us hope but if things carry on in a similar fashion tomorrow we will be completely stuffed and we think that we will have to temporarily prevent people signing up (PayPal is our only payment option at the moment).

Just wondering what the best way is to do this. Could we just put signup.php somewhere safe and replace it with a new signup.php that simply gives a message explaining and apologising? Would that work? Could we then simply put the old signup.php back once PayPal have sorted themselves out? Am I being daft thinking it could be that simple?

Hope other UK amember users haven't been to badly affected.
Fingers crossed that tomorrow is a better day.

    Rosie

    Rosie,
Yes you just need to backup signup.php and place any file with explanations instead of signup.php.
Then, just restore original file and everything will work as before.

    Thank you Alexander, that's fantastic.

It looks like finally all the notifications are coming through and new signups are working normally - phew!

It feels very comforting to know that we can easily block signups temporarily if something similar were to happen again.

    Many thanks
    Rosie
