On my Debian root server I tried to install a fresh aMember 4.2.6 I purchased & downloaded today.

After upload I changed the permissions on the folders: data, data/new-rewrite and data/cache from 755 to 777. The permission error on the first setup screen disappeared. I put in the necessary information in screen 1 and the database information in screen 2.

When I hit "NEXT >" I get every time:

Fatal error: Class 'Am_Setup' not found in/home/www/web/html/access/setup/index.phpon line501

Just for testing, change all of your permissions to 777 and see if that changes anything?

I'm having the EXACT same problem. Fresh install. Changed permissions, uploaded all files via ftp etc.... been doing lots of detective work on google, changed my tags to asp style tags allowed, recompiled php, make sure everything is correct / latest versions, etc... but nothing works.

The file that it's looking for seems to exist in the right place, etc... I see no reason for the error, and no solution either.

Is that your server? Do you have include_path php setting changed somewhere in server config?
I can't say this for sure until I don't check server this myself, but this can happen if aMember is unable to change include_path through set_include_path function. This usually happen when you change include_path using php_admin_value somewhere in server configuration file. Try to change php_admin_value to php_value if this is so.
