I saved the original signup.php as signup-orig.php then edited the actual signup.php to show a message "not currently accepting new members". But when I tried to change the files back (i.e. deleted my signup.php and renamed signup-orig.php back to signup.php) all I get is a blank screen!! Have checked file permissions, neither 644, 755 or 777 solves it. What have I done wrong please?
