When I purchased my aMember License and phpBB plugin in 2013, the aMember team did the install for me. I never received any files. I do not know where to find the instructions for integration with phpbb and we are going through an update and site redesign.

We paid David from Membership Academy to do the integration, but I do not want to pay his fee for premium membership to get the documentation for a product that should have come with documentation. Anyone have the instructions or details on where I can find which phpbb files have been edited?

The OP was posted in June but, as far as I can ascertain (after mentioning it a couple of times via ticket), there is still no documentation for integrating phpBB.

The method originally used to integrate aMember 3 to phpBB 3.0 does not apply with aMember 4 and phpBB 3.1

To get full integration is not straightforward and requires edits to several phpBB template files and quite specific configuration of aMember. Documentation is required.

    Huh?

That phpBB plugin requires literally zero effort to integrate the two. You have to fill in the database fields and some phpBB cookie/domain info in the plugin screen, hit Save, and that's it.

I don't know where you're struggling and why... it's one of the easiest integration plugins in aMember. And it's been there forever, v3, v4 and now in v5, working just fine.

My experience was different I'm afraid.
I upgraded to amember v4 in November last year and then had a ticket running with Anton until the end of March as we tried to get a seamless integration between phpBB3.1 and Wordpress.

By seamless, I mean members should log on once and browse between phpBB and Wordpress without having to log on again.

We tried many things over four months but never quite achieved this goal.

Currently, all members joining my site enjoy the desired seamless integration.
However, the large majority of members joined when I was running amember v3. They have to log on again if they browse from phpBB to Wordpress.

The only way these members can enjoy seamless integration between the two platforms is by logging in,
visiting their Membership panel, clicking the Edit Profile tab and filling out their password three times and submitting the form. This updates the amember database with the correct password encoding and from then on they are fully integrated.

This is rather too much to ask/hope of my members.

Anton explained that the problem arose when the password hashing function was upgraded in phpBB
    3.1.8.

In his last reply to me he said, "Amember is able to re-encode passwords using new function ONLY if users update passwords at Amember. Unfortunately seamless integration is not possible for old customers because of that upgrade of PHPbb."

The only modifications this integration required were to two phpBB active stylesheet template files: navbar_header.html and, crucially, overall_header.html

The line in overall_header.html which makes it work is <img src="http://mywebsite.com/amember/login" alt="" style="visibility: hidden" />

However, I recently discovered that this interferes with phpBB Admin permissions. I have to delete the line or revert to unmodified stylesheet to move a topic in phpBB, for example. It also causes issues with phpBB auto-login and logging out.

I'd be interested to hear if amember v5 allows pre-phpBB 3.1.8 membership databases to integrate with Wordpress.

Hey did you get any more information on this?
Hope you did and hope you read this and reply back. thanks

    @miso
at the time when I replied I was being cautious and did not do much furhter. but then I got another kid inovlved who was supposedly good at it. HErei s my story .

If you have a forum with previous members. and you now integrate it into amember. what you've done is that you are using amember to manage your member. but amember does not yet have the members. The question then was how to bring those members into amember without destroying the format of hte forum.

In my forum I had users categorised into groups and those groups had different access persmisions. previously I would assign groups manually based on their membership. I was only selling life time membership so it was easy. I don't have many sales per month so no problem. But later I switched to monthly subscriptions and different membership levesl. that required a better software to manage it hence amember. The problem was i had to teach amember what it should and should not do when it comes to managing members.

Cutting the long story short after figuring out how to import members directly from the sql database, (damn that was stupid decision) we made a crucial mistake. If you tell amember that if a member has no subscription, (which previous lifetime members had) then they should be assigned as guests, it will do that. :) So I lost ALL the groups and categories in the forum in an instance. It should not have been a big issue right. Just go to your backup and restore it. nah nah. I am with ipage and they don't let you do backups on your own. And their backups only stay for 3 days. etc etc. it was a huge mess ... i did not recover my old structure because our backup was corrupt and they could not recover it. So I had to go through the entire history of 1500 members and assign them groups one by one. :) something i did not want to do hence i bought the software.

Having suffered a great deal of stress and anxiety Its all ok now. But if there was documentation available maybe I would not have made crucial mistakes. I did the right thing, i hired someone. Unfortunately the someone was also not very competent.

Ameber still does not very well with my wordpress integation. I just gave up on it. Else I had so many plans to do so many things. I'm stuck. But its running smoothly.

My new issue is, can I upgrade phpbb3 forum software? They do bring about regular updates and shoudl I be updating without worrying? I'd appreciate your help on this.

    thanks
